THE INCREDIBLE DUO (A Sestina to Xena and Gabrielle)
Long ago, during the almost forgotten time of mythical gods and evil warlords,
Traveling throughout the land that is now referred to as Ancient Greece,
There lived two beautiful womyn who were known as the incredible duo.
Their love for each other and their dedication to the Greater Good
Rendered them to be icons of humanity both in their own era
And in the multitude of times which were to follow.
The lives these women lead were extremely difficult to follow
So the fair-haired bard, Gabrielle, penned the tales of love, conquest and
warlords.
Her eloquent scrolls filled with rhyme left behind a legacy of their era.
As she related stories of conflicts and of glory pertaining to Greece,
All of her accounts described the ongoing battle between Evil and Good,
And each account showed the many lives, which were changed because of the duo.
Given the title Warrior Princess, Xena, was the second half of the duo.
She had been a lone warrior before Gabrielle had decided to follow.
Though she didn't realize it, the bard's joining her was for the warrior's
greater good.
It was time she stopped associating with villains, thieves, and warlords.
She then took a look around through the eyes of her bard and saw a different
Greece.
Hence, her life changed for the better, which was a blessing for the entire
era.
But now the legend of the Warrior and her Bard have reached our era,
And we are mesmerized by the relationship of this incredible duo.
This legend and it's telling has brought us all closer to the magic of
Ancient Greece.
There are those of us who not only envision their lives but try to follow
In their footsteps, even though we no longer battle with mythical gods and
warlords.
There is constantly a challenge to be met, one that includes Evil and Good.
Our association with Xena and Gabrielle has brought about much good.
It is a tale of courage that has reached across time to embrace our era.
In our time there is still decadence and slumlords have replaced warlords.
Many of our lives were dull and listless before the introduction of this
incredible duo,
And knowing them through stories of times gone by gave us pause to follow.
It brought us closer to our humanity and to the magic of Ancient Greece
I would one day like to meet with a group of my new friends in Greece.
We could speak of the Warrior and the Bard and all they accomplished that was
good.
They have definitely left a mark on our civilization and it will surely follow
That a few soldiers of the pen will continue to flourish in this era.
We owe much to the love and courage of our beloved incredible duo,
As we continue their battle for good and wage war with today's version of
warlords.
Though Greece no longer suffers the abomination of ancient warlords,
In the world there is still much good that needs doing, and it follows
That as an era comes to an end, I salute the infamous incredible duo!
